Butterflies Galore

Over my many evenings of blog surfing I have seen a number of these tri-fold cards and I have been meaning to try one. Finally I got inspired because Mother's day is a few weeks away and I needed a card for my Grandmother. Do you have the Papillon Potpourri stamp set? If not I really recommend it, especially now that you can get two butterflies punches that match the stamps. It really makes a card like this super easy and fast.

I used Regals as my colour palate because I rarely use these colours and I wanted to challenge myself and use my as yet unused Regals Ink pads.

The Sentiment is from the Family Reunion Set and I punched it with a large Oval punched and then layered it with an Eggplant Accent from the Apothecary Accents Framelits Dies. A couple of Rhinestones to finish it off and there we are.

We visited the Calgary Zoo today and the Butterflies are just starting to come out of their cocoons. Next time I am there I will work on getting a good shot to share.

Have a wonderful, fun-filled and Happy Easter!

A Little Birdy ...

Ok so it looks like Spring may show up this week which makes me happy and my kids are on Spring Break which after the first day has been going pretty well so again, I'm happy!  My husband is a firm believer in "Happy Wife, Happy Life" so overall life's good!  What was really good is that the kids were so well behaved today I got to play in my Craft room!   I love days when the ideas just flow and today was one of those days.

I recently got one of those Card Base Pop n' Cuts Dies from the Spring Mini and I am waiting (not so patiently) for the Dress Up Die and Dress Form Pop n' Cuts Die.  While I wait I went to work to play with the base die.   Let me know what you think.

There are a lot of elements on what looks like a pretty Clean and Simple card.  The Base is Rose Red with a Whisper White layer; this layer was stamped with the French Script background stamp and then embossed with clear embossing.   I then used the Apothecary Accents Die with some Floral District Designer Series Paper and layered a Tangerine Tango Oval and a Whisper White Oval.
Stamped on the White Oval is a pair of birds from "Flock Together" in Melon Mambo and I drew on a swing.  I then stamped the bird cage from the same set on a window sheet with Staz'on.

To finish it off I added some Tangerine Tango Ribbon (hiding the glue dot!) and the Itty Bitty Banner stamp.

Well that's it for now.   Don't forget about the Promotions going on right now and if you are in the Calgary Area check out my Events Page for Card Classes starting up soon.

Last Day to Sale-a-Brate

Today is the last day of Sale-a-Bration and you don't want to miss out on free stuff!! I will be placing one last order today so let me know if you want to take advantage while you can.  One of my favourite sets from this flyer is Feeling Sentimental. It is so great for making a simple yet beautiful card!  If you like the vintage look it only takes a little sponging and you've got a great card for anyone!

For this card I not only used the Feeling Sentimental Stamp Set but I also used the super cute Petite Curly Label Punch and the coordinating Stamp set Pretty Petites.  Another great Sale-a-bration exclusive is the Vine Street Embossing Folder that was used for the background!

Don't miss out.

Challenge -- The Paper Players #137

This week at the Paper Players is Anne's Clean and Simple Sketch Challenge.  Keeping with my "I wish it was spring" theme I created an April Showers inspired card using the Spring Sampler Stamp Set from Stampin' Up!

I love bright colours; they are my favourite colour group.  In this card I used a number of Brights, such as; Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, Rich Razzelberry and Pacific Point.

I finally got to use my New Cloudy Day embossing folder!  I am so in love with texture and embossing folders are wonderful for that.  This folder is great for so many reasons and I love it with the theme of this card.
I used Daffodil Delight Seam Binding Ribbon at the top.  To me it is like the Sunshine on the card!

Let me know what your think and check out the other great entries at The Paper Players this week.

Looking forward to Spring

I know that in many places in the Northern Hemisphere spring has sprung but in most of Canada it is a little ways off.  Here in Calgary we have Snow and it looks more like winter now then it did in January!  So I am adding blue skies and grass to my cards because I miss it so much!  Here is a sponged card I made using the "Lovely as a Tree" set.  I did not love this card at first because the tree itself is not opaque but the more I look at it the more I like it.   Let me know what you think.

The colours I sponged on to the background were;  Always Artichoke, Wild Wasabi and Bashful Blue.  The Tree is stamped in Black Stazon.
And to all my Calgary Friends the weather may improve but I am not sure when!    :(

Challenge -- Freshly Made Sketches #77

Freshly Made Sketches has another great challenge going and I just had to get in to my craft room and get to work.  I am so happy with these colours.   I really miss Peach Parfait and Poppy Parade.  Speaking of Poppies, I am so in love Pleasant Poppies.
I used black to make the colours pop.  Again I miss the black satin ribbon but I had to pull it out for this card, it is one of my favourite ribbons.

For the Poppy piece I stamped Pleasant Poppies with versamark and used black embossing powder.  I then spritzed the paper with Pumpkin Pie ink and alcohol.  Then I coloured in the poppies with my markers and a water pen.  I embossed the Poppy Parade piece and shimmered the whole card.  "I love shimmer"

Are you ready for St. Patty's Day?

It is just one week to Saint Patrick's Day and although our Irish side is pretty small we still wear our best green and drink green beer (while my husband does anyway).  I found these really great punch art Leprechauns on Pinterest last summer and now I finally get to use them.   I made some treats for my club girls and for my day home kids.  Let me know what you think.

For the top of the baggie I used a Top Note Die folded in half, cut in Whisper White and sponged around the edge in Gumball Green.  I stamped the "Lucky you" from the set Afterthoughts* and "Happy St. Patrick's Day" from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Punches I used:
1 1/4" Circle (head)
1" Circle (hat)
Word Window (band on hat and brim)
Scallop Circle Punch (Hair/Beard)
5 Petal Flower (moustache)*
Confetti from Cupcake Builder Punch
   (Eyes/Nose)

I used a white Gel Pen for the eyes and some retired glimmer brads* for the decoration on the hat.   Don't have glimmer brads you say ... Then use the extra large rhinestones in the Spring Mini and colour them with a green sharpie!

Card stock used was Tangerine Tango, Gumball Green, Very Vanilla and Basic Black.

* These items are retired.

Below is the original design/post by Crystal Boling.  What a great treat!  I did not have any peppermint patties but I had some chocolate gold coins and skittles so I thought; Rainbow and Pot of Gold!  Fun.

Enjoy your week and remember next Sunday is Saint Patty's Day!  How are you spending your day?

Easter Treats .. only 3 weeks away!

It's that time of year in Calgary where we get great warm days followed by crazy snow storms!  There is snowdrifts and sunshine creating mucky yards and road.   It feels like spring but not in that flowers and rain way everyone usually associates with spring.   That being said I love the warm sun and the idea of green grass even if it is not yet reality.   Easter is another major indicator that winter is ending and the days of pools and BBQ's are just ahead (although we BBQ in -20C around here).   I love to get creative at Easter time.  There are such fun goodies to play with.  Pinterest is full of awesome ideas for making your sweets not only taste good but fun to look at too.  One old standby is the Easter basket.   I recreated a little basket with the Scallop Envelope Die similar to one I saw on Pinterest.

Let me know what you think.

Using the Scallop Envelope Die for the Big Shot I cut 4 Daffodil Delight Envelopes and glued the edges together. I used a 3 1/4" square for the bottom and glued the bottom of each envelope to it.  I also ran all of them through the Lattice Embossing Folder before I glued them together.  I also cut 4 Mambo Melon Envelopes (just the tops) and glued them under the Daffodil folds to highlight the scallop.   The Handle is a 1/2" of Daffodil layered with a Melon Mambo Dotted Scalloped Ribbon.

The card is on Whisper White cardstock and sprtized with Daffodil Delight.  I cut the front side of the card down to 3" and added a Daffodil delight border.   I then used Spring Sampler Stamp set from the Spring Mini to make the cute Postage Stamps.   The Sentiment is stamped in Old Olive and is form Teeny Tiny Wishes.
I used Whisper White Cardstock to create the filler for the basket and then filled it up with goodies from the dollar store.

I had so much fun with this little basket. I hope you like it as much as I do.
On another note, I mentioned the other day that I went to Stampin' Up Regional Convention in Calgary last weekend.  While at the convention we did some Make and Takes!  Here are a couple of the fun projects from Stampin' Up.

Aren't they fun!  It is using the Stamp Set "Clockworks" which I do not have and really enjoyed using.  Do you like these?   This is the type of card we make at Stampin' Up Parties.  Has a hostess you will receive not only the benefits from the Catalogue and a special something form me but you and your guests will get to make a great project to take home.

Live, Laugh, Love

Well I really enjoyed the Stampin' Up Regional event here in Calgary on Saturday and what good timing because it snowed like CRAZY on Sunday!!   I learned a lot of new and fun techniques and discovered I have to order the "All Dressed Up" bundle because there are some really great things I want to C.A.S.E.
All Dressed Up Bundle Clear  Cute right?

I had a great time, met some really nice ladies and enjoyed some fun crafting time.   I will show you some of what I learned over the next few weeks.   Before I get to that though I wanted to show you one of the cards I made for my up coming Birthday Card Class.  I am so in love with this card I may have to make a set in different colours and images.

I hope you like it as much as I do.

I created it using Daffodil Delight and Regal Rose inks. I sponged them together and stamped the birds from "Serene Silhouettes" with Staz On.  I then punched it out and used the Frames Embossing folder to frame the image.  Super easy and major impact! This is my favourite kind of card.  The "Live, Laugh, Love" is from one of the old Simply Sent kits I think but I cannot remember anymore.

Well I hope you like the card and if you live in Western Canada I hope you managed to dig yourself out from all this snow.  Have a great day.

Have a great weekend.

Calgary Stampin' Up Regional!!!

Today is a Stampin' Up Regional event here in Calgary and I am very excited to be attending.   Whenever I go to a Stampin' Up event one of my favourite parts is the SWAP!  I always make a bunch of cards and then take them to swap with other Stampin' Up Demos and Customers.   This year I made 50 myself and my client Nicole made 50 more.   She and I will end up with a lot of samples  from other card makers so it is a great way to share creativity.

Take a look and what I am bringing...

This card is the one I made for my swaps.  I did change it a little bit from what you see but overall it looks the same.
Recipe ...
Riding Hood Red - base
Early Espresso Layer (here it is Crumb Cake) - 4 x 5 1/4
Very Vanilla Layer - 3 3/4 x 5
Embossed with the Vine Street Embossing Folder
Aged with Crumb Cake Ink and a sponge
On Vanilla I stamped the Phone Booth (Feeling Sentimental) in Riding Hood Red and cut it out with an Oval Framelit then aged the edges with Crumb Cake.
Also on Vanilla I stamped the "hello" (Pretty Petites) in Riding Hood Red or Espresso and added it to the oval with Bakers Twine in Red or Espresso.  To add the twine I used a glue dot on the front and scotch tape on the back.  I then added the oval to the card with dimentionals.

This card I made for a challenge a long time ago and Nicole liked it so much she wanted to recreate it for her swaps.  (She did not add the sentiment so that others could use it as they saw fit).
Recipe ...
Whisper White -Base
Tempting Turquoise Layer - 3 1/2 x 4 3/4
Whisper White Layer - 3 1/4 x 4 1/2
Embossed with the Swiss Dots Embossing Folder
Tempting Turquoise DSP Pinwheel using the new Pinwheel Die and a small silver brad.
Crumb Cake "stick" - 1/8 x 2
Daffodil Delight Seam Binding Ribbon added with a wrinkle to it so it looks like it is blowing in the wind!

Nicole's swaps are a little different from the picture as she switched the DSP and Card Stock but I like her version better.

Well I am off to the convention center!   I hope to post some updates from the event on my Facebook page so keep your eyes out.

Have a great weekend.
