Challenge -- Freshly Made Sketches #74

Wow look at me go! Two challenges in one week.  Sometimes I just need the challenge to get me motivated and FMS never fails to get me in to my craft room.  I did something totally different from usual projects and used my sponges to create this sunset Sympathy card.

I am always inspired by Michelle Zindorf, she is a wonder at creating art with a brayer and sponges.  I love the look of a sunset card and when I was driving home the other day the sky was this amazing combination of pinks and purples so here is my take on it.  I used (from top to bottom) Midnight Muse, Perfect Plum, Rose Red, Pretty in Pink and Pink Pirouette.   I used Basic Black for the hill and the tree (from the Serene Silhouettes).  The Card Stock is Basic Black and Perfect Plum.

Challenge -- Paper Players, Buttons and Bows

I have not done a challenge in a while and I love doing them so I sat down today and wow I was challenged.  This should have been simple, babies, bows, buttons, I mean come on!!  But it took me a couple of hours just to think of something!!  I really like how it turned out.  I went for a different shape and surprised myself when I ended up with something very different!  I hope you like it.

I have made a scallop circle, easel card before but I think added this framelit to the front really changed the shape and look of the card.  I used Pool Party for the base and some Bright Blossoms DSP.  The Stamp set I used was Button Buddies.  It is such a fun set and this little rattle is precious.  I added the stamps in Tempting Turquoise Ink and the buttons are the same colour.  The Ribbon and Twine are Pool Party.

It took me a while to bring my vision to life but I love how it turned out!
Let me know what you think!

Pleasant Poppies - Candle and Card

Well another week is over and here in Alberta we are heading into our holiday Monday! It's Family Day!!  With my head cold and soar throat it may be a Daddy/Daughters day while Mommy rests.  I am very tired of winter. Although we have had a mild winter compared to many other areas in North America and I am thankful for that!  I do miss green grass and pretty flowers.  My favourite way to add flowers into my life is to stamp them!  Flower Embellishments are fun too.  This is what had me pulling out my Peasant Poppies stamp last week.

Using this stamp I created a card similar to one I found on Pinterest and then I just had to try this one on a candle.  If you have never transferred an image to a candle before it is really simple.   You stamp your desired image on tissue paper and colour as you wish.  Be careful not to rip the tissue and remember to use the same colour tissue as the candle you are transferring to.   White is usually the best but vanilla will work too.  Cut the image out of the tissue as close as you can to the stamp. Then place the image on the candle and use your heat gun to melt the tissue paper into the candle.

I used my blender pen and dipped it in to Tangerine Tango Ink.  I kept the colour light for the card but for the candle I added a lot more ink including old olive for the stems.

I used a piece of Vellum for the sentiment and some Tangerine Tango ribbon from the Sale-a-Bration flyer.  The flower is from the Spring Mini and I dyed it Tangerine Tango and added a pearl.  How did I dye the flower you ask?  Well I used a Stampin' Spritzer and filled it with Tangerine Tango re-inker and alcohol. I then sprayed it all over the flower.  It was so simple.  I think these flowers are my new favourite thing!

Have a great week everyone.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Ok I know I am a day early.  But I am heading to West Edmonton Mall with my kids for our annual Family Day Long Weekend Trip to Edmonton.  So I am posting today as I plan to leave the computer at home with the hubby!

Today was both of the kiddies Valentines Parties at their schools so we have loads of cute Valentines and candy and pencils ect...

Here is the run down on what we gave away, including Megan's fun Pinterest inspired Card and Jillian's little treat Matchbox Valentines.   I also made a few little treats for my day home girls.

At Jillian's School there is a No Treat Policy,  Much to her dismay!  So I found some cute little stickers in boxes at the dollar store and they fit perfectly inside the SU Matchbox Die.  I did all the cutting and assembling of the boxes and Jillian added on the hearts and birds.  She loves to craft and really enjoyed creating these for her classmates.

For my day home kids I bought Smarties!  In Canada Smarties are similar to M&M's but kids seem to like them even more (I kind of do too).  I created these wrappers out of retired DSP and crimped the edges.  I love how they turned out.  I then added a quick label using the Hearts A Flutter Framelits and Stamp Set.
Here is another view of the same thing.  I just used the measurements of the box of candy and added 3" to the length so I had enough on the ends to crimp.

I saved my favourite Valentine for last.  I found a number of these photos on Pinterest (LOVE that site) and since Megan is still in Pre-School and allowed to give candy I thought I would give them a shot.  I really Love how they turned out.  I just added a "Happy Valentine - From Megan"  and sent them off to Walmart for printing.  A couple of hole punches using my handy Crop-a-dile and a sucker!  LOVE IT!!

Have a wonderful Weekend and a very Happy Valentines Day!

Chalk It UP!

Time is flying by and I cannot believe it is almost the middle of February already!!  Do you have your Valentines ready??  I am almost there.  My oldest daughter now wants to create her own Valentines so we have a date tonight to have some fun with punches and stamps!  I am looking forward to watching her create.

So on with my post.  I don't know if you have noticed but Chalk is all the rage these days and there have been some really great cards using this technique.  I found a great little tutorial from Becky Roberts at Inking Idaho that shows you how to make a piece of black cardstock look just like a chalkboard.  To see her tutorial Click Here.

For my take on this I wanted to create a card that showcased the chalkboard to my club girls.  My thought was that you could create a great School Days Scrapbook page or teacher card.  So I dug out a stamp from a couple of years ago and created a Thank you for teachers.

I used simple bright colours that I thought really made the board pop!  The white gel pen around the edge  and the little pennant banner finish it off.  This was a super simple card that I think will be great for a teacher at the end of the year.

Just BEEcause!

OMG I love love love the Honeycomb Folder!  Have you seen this thing?  It is in the new SU Spring Mini!!  Of course what goes with a great honeycomb?  A really cute bee.   The Spring Sampler Stamp Set from the same mini has a great little bee that works great with this folder!   So here you can see my first attempt to combine these two!  I love it.

I added some Shimmer to the card when it was done but I don't think you can really see it in the photo.  It looks so good on the black and yellow!  The "Just Because" is from a retired set but I thought it worked so well with the bees!

Hope you like the card.

Scrapbook MDS -- February Layout

As I said on January 1st I send out a Scrapbook Layout as a Challenge to my clients every month.  My goal is to get them motivated to use the great Stampin Up Products they purchase from me!  By doing this double page layout every month you would have a 24 page book at the end of the year!  I use MDS to create my Layout and my example but all of that could be translated to paper easily enough!  I encourage everyone to put their own spin on it and of course let me know how it turned out!

Here is this month's layout.  It is a little more detailed than last months but sometimes you just have to go for it and make a great busy and fun page!  My inspiration for this layout came from Pinterest!  There are endless ideas on that site for everything!!!

Page 1

Page 2

Creating Circles can be a challenge without the right tools, Big Shot Circle dies or other cutting products can really help you get that look you are going for!  Edge punches are an essential tool for Scrapbookers too.  Adding small details like a scalloped edge can really put a page together! Of course a Scrapbook page is nothing without really great Designer Series Paper.  I used the MDS download "Wicked Fun" one I have in paper also as I know many of my clients do too.

My hope is that these layouts will help you to create something fun and lasting for you and your family!  Scrapbooks may contain photos with wonderful memories but they also are put together with love and creativity that will endure.  Happy Crafting!

Have a great Day!!!
