Thanksgiving Bird House - Centrepiece

I know what you are thinking .. Thanksgiving is a long way away.  It really is not.  It is only about 7 weeks away here in Canada!  Can you believe it!?

I spent a good part of Friday last week working on this adorable bird house for our Thanksgiving Centrepiece.  Some of the stamping is from ALL NEW stamp sets in this years Holiday Catalogue.

I got the bird house at Michaels Craft Store, it was unpainted so I started with painting it in the brown/orange fall colours that you see here.  Once dry I added the flower garden and roof decorations.  This is where I spent most of my time but I love how it turned out so it was worth it.

The wreath and pumpkins were stamped with the Wondrous Wreath and Fall Fest Stamp sets. I added some punched out birds, embellishments such as the leaves (got to love that bird punch) and button, to finish the look.

I hope you like it.

The flowers were made using a small scallop punch, the retired boho blossom punch and the wonderful all new fringe scissors. I added leaves using the bird builder punch.

For the sunflowers I used the retired Boho blossom punch again and a 1/2" circle punch. I sponged in some colour and used my piercing tool on the center to look like seeds.   "Give Thanks" is from the stamp set "Good Greetings" a hostess set and is framed in gold card stock.

The wreath is from the new "Wondrous Wreath" set but I did cut down the wreath to fit on this bird house. The original is almost double the size.  A little linen thread finished the look.

This was so fun to create.  I cannot wait to share it with my family at Thanksgiving.

Have a wonderful day.

Here is a little flashback for you so this post is not all business ;)  Since Canadian Thanksgiving is only days away, here is a card I made last year using the Core'dinations Early Espresso paper, Woodgrain Embossing folder and the Falling Gently Stamp set.

I love fall colours and to get the look on these leaves I added re-inker to a folded baby wipe and used that as my ink pad for stamping.   Too fun.
Let me know what you think.

Tag 4 You Gift Set

We are one week away to Thanksgiving here in Canada and I will be visiting family and having fun!  I am really looking forward to it.  One great thing about going to my family's home for Thanksgiving is that I do not have to cook.
If there was one thing I wish I was better at it would be cooking (exercise would be a close second LOL) so you can imagine how intimidating a Family dinner like Thanksgiving would be for me.  Call the caterer!  But this year I am going to my Mother-in-laws so I am get to stick to what I am good at.  Thank you gifts!

I have made this fun little gift set with the Tags 4 You Stamp Set and punch.

I made the box with Crumb Cake Card Stock and Window Sheet.  I then used the Burlap Ribbon to wrap it in and added one of my favourite Stamped Images from the Truly Grateful Stamp Set.  So simple and fun.

Inside the gift set I placed 4 note cards with a simple stamped background image, 2 in gold and 2 in silver.  I also added 4 crumb cake envelopes with envelope liners stamped in the same colours and background image.

The background image I used was one from the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set and the Ink and Liner Framelits are from the Holiday Catalogue.

This little card of labels is the fun part of the gift set.  I saw this great idea at Convention.  I attached a dimentional to each of the punched labels.  I then glued the dimentional down to the sheet without removing the paper backing.  This way the label can be removed from the card with the dimentional still intact and added to the blank note cards.

Here is another simple Idea using the same card of Gift Tags.   I created these two cards using Washi Tape and inside each card there will be some labels that can be added to any gift or card.  These are so fun for teachers or neighbours.

With all the Great Stamp/Punch Sets the possibilities are endless.

Happy Thanksgiving

We had a great club meeting last weekend and learned the Joseph's Coat technique.   It is so pretty and I can think of some more great cards to use with this.

This is a fun and easy technique with lots of impact.

For this card we used the "Gently Falling" Stamp set.  The colours for the base were Crushed Curry,  Always Artichoke and Cajun Craze.   The top colour is Early Espresso.

You can see how it goes from a blend of colours to a pop of colour by adding the clear embossing and a dark coat of ink over the excess.

Below is a You Tube video I found that shows you exactly how to make this.

Sorry for the short post, I thought with both kids in school now I would have so much time to myself!  HA!!  I am busier than ever.

I just want to mention a couple of new Photo Polymer Stamps sets and one in particular that looks really fun for this time of year.  "Bite Me"
134622  $16.95

Fun right!  Can you just picture some really fun Halloween Treats with this?!

Another great new set that will be fun for the traveller in your life is the

September ... Are you ready for it?

I have to tell you that I am totally ready for September.   I am ready for it because my oldest has been back to school for 2 weeks and although I have to get my baby ready for her first day of Kindergarten I am adopting the attitude of "Been there, Done that!"

In early August I labeled backpacks and school shoes. I bought lunch friendly food and started to get myself on a morning schedule of school breakfasts and packing lunch!  That's right I pack lunch in the morning, I'm a rebel!

Another reason I feel ready for September is I have my club project planned and ready plus I have a Product Showcase coming up and I have created so many great things for it!

It's NOT too early for Thanksgiving Crafts...

... and let me tell you why!   Back to School time is so busy, you get back in to the swing of things,  dance classes, girl guides, piano and more.   Once your firmly in the grip of schedules, car pools and teacher meetings you soon realize it's almost October!

In Canada Thanksgiving is the second weekend in October!  That is a mere six weeks away!!

If you have not seen the New Stampin' Up Holiday Catalogue you are missing out on all that is fun and crafty for the up coming Holiday season.  Click below to go to the On Line Catalogue.

My Fall Product Showcase is September 15 at 2pm.  If you live in Calgary and want to check out some of the amazing products from this years Holiday Catalogue then please RSVP by Sept 7 at janetyates@shaw.ca

In the meantime here is my CASE of the Thanksgiving Card from Page 3 in the Catalogue.

The Stamp Set is "Truly Grateful" and I love it!

For this card I used Very Vanilla as my base and the top layer.  I also used Pumpkin Pie Card Stock as a layer.   The stamp sets used are Gorgeous Grunge and of course Truly Grateful.  Ink was Early Espresso, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight.
For embellishments I used Witches Brew Washi Tape and a small 7/8" scallop circle punch and 3/4" circle punch with a little "U" from Around Array Stamp Set.  I backed the circle with Early Espresso.
The Sentiment is stamped on the tape in Staz On.

Well I hope you like this card!  It was super fun to make.

Speaking of Fall ... The Stampin Up September "Best Of..." series is out now!   Guess what the set is called "Best Of Autumn"
Check it out.

Give Thanks

Thanksgiving was on Oct 8 here in Canada and although I did not celebrate it this year due to an ill child I still took time to be thankful.   I am thankful that I have a wonderful, happy and healthy family (with the exception of an ear infection that weekend of course!) and thankful that I have great friends.  I am also thankful that I get to  be a stay at home Mom and spend lots of time with my kids while they are young.   Of course I am thankful to be a Stampin UP Demo too,  I get to turn what I love into my job and share it with so many wonderful people, and although Thanksgiving is over I still love the season and because I do I made the card below this past week.

The Neutrals are quickly becoming my favourite colour family.  Here I used Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla and Early Espresso.

I also used one of my favourite Stamp Sets, Lovely as a Tree.  I added a little sparkle to the trees using my glue pen and some Dazzling Diamonds.  The Ribbon is Seam Binding in Crumb Cake and the Sentiment is from the Stamp Set Hand-Penned Holidays.

Thanks for looking!

Happy Thanksgiving

If you live in Canada then you know that this is a long weekend!  Thanksgiving long weekend!  A wonderful Fall tradition of Turkey, Pumpkin Pie and Family.  Autumn is one of my favourite times of year.  The colours are amazing and it makes for really great crafting.  Weather you are making cards or a scrapbook page, leaves are a great embellishment!   I made a card back in August using the baby wipe technique on the leaves.  Well I loved those leaves so much I had to do it again!

I also love the new "Core'dinations Card Stock"  here you will see the Early Espresso. This card stock has a monochroamatic core that when cut, ripped or sanded you will see and makes a wonderful effect!

In this card I have used the Woodgrain Embossing folder with the Card Stock and then sanded it down to really bring out the Woodgrain look.

The base is Crumb Cake as is the label.  I used Hemp twine (unfortunately it is retired) and the naturals Buttons from the current catalogue.  The leaves are from the Gently Falling Stamp Set.  The Sentiment is from the Thankful For.. stamp set that is now retired.

To create the leaves I folded a wet baby wipe into a square and dropped ink into it. I used Pumpkin Pie, Real Red, Old Olive and Daffodil Delight re-inkers.  I also added the crystal effects but I am not sure they show up in the photos.

Anyway,  Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian followers!  Hope you have a great, fun filled, food filled and family filled long weekend!

Take care and Thanks for looking!

Challenge -- Freshly Made Sketches #50

I was playing with my Perfectly Preserved Stamp Set today and when I saw the sketch on the FMS website I thought it was just what I needed for some inspiration.  I wanted a simple Thank You card that would work for Thanksgiving or anytime of year.  I love the colours in the Orchard Harvest DSP especially the Espresso and Indigo combination.  Check it out ...

Ok so the colours used are all from the Orchard Harvest DSP.  Early Espresso, Island Indigo, Lucky Limeade, Raspberry Ripple and Very Vanilla.  I used the Perfectly Preserved Stamp Set and coordinating Cannery Set Framlits for the Jar's lid and the pears.  Below is the Sketch we had to work from and the link to FMS other great entries and examples.
