It's not Christmas anymore....

Well tomorrow my house will be de-christmased (is that a word?).  So today I move on.   I have not had anytime for my craft room and hope to get in there next week but until then here is a little card I whipped up for Valentines day!   I saw the Valentines Day Cards in the Hallmark store yesterday and could not believe it but there it was.  So here I am putting it out there!  Happy Valentines LOL!

There were a number of Ribbon cards at Christmas time so I thought I would try the technique with some hearts!  I used the Primrose Petals and Raspberry Ripple Ribbon and Paper for this card as well as Whisper White.
I will have some new products to show you in my next post and remember the new Mini starts on January 1.   There are some really great products and I will put some of them into action this week.  Also remember that Sale-a-bration starts on January 22!  For every $60.00 CAD you spend you get to choose a free item from the special Sale-a-bration flyer!  If you would like a mini or a flyer please contact for your free copy!

Have a great Day!!!

Sharing in your Sorrow

I consider myself a very lucky person.  I have a wonderful friend, a very best friend who is like a sister to me.   If you have a friend like this you will know what I mean.   Her family is like family to me also.   To my great sadness Tuesday saw the passing of her Father.   We do not live very close together and all I want to do is to give her a hug.   When I feel stressed or sad I usually retreat into my craft room.  I decided I should put some of my sorrow on paper and create a card for the family.  I saw a card by Angela Carter and I thought it was perfect so I CASEd it.

You will be greatly missed Don.  You were a wonderful person who treated me like one of your own.

My thoughts and prayers are with Don's Family today and everyday.

Christmas Treat Holder

It is less than a week to Christmas.  My kids have only one day left of school and I am almost ready.  There is some wrapping to be done and a bit of baking but nothing to crazy.  I have no more shopping to do so that is nice!   My youngest daughter is in preschool and they still allow treats to be given out so I am all over that!  I found a great little tutorial on Becky Roberts' site at Inking Idaho for a Top Note Treat Purse.

I created a bunch of these for her class. I filled them with Kisses and a candy cane!

I used the Be of Good Cheer DSP for the top and Cherry Cobbler or Gumball Green for the base of the purse.  I then used the retired set "Christmas Punch."

I used coordinating Ribbon in Gumball Green and Cherry Cobbler for the handle.

Check out Becky's Blog for wonderful inspiration!  You will not be sorry!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Simple Santa Card

So when you see a Red suit with a black belt and gold buckle you most likely think of Santa right?  Well I am sure you have seen this concept around before! I put a little spin on it inside though and created a money/gift card holder on the inside.

I used a piece of Card Stock that is 12" x 5 1/2".  I scored it at 4 1/4", 6" and 7 3/4" , I then cut out a small slit in the center fold to hold the gift.   We now have a card with the regular dimensions and a built in insert.   I then added a black belly band with a champagne glimmer buckle made with Square punches.   It is a very simple concept that is Christmas all the way!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just wanted to write a short personal note on here too. Yesterday a tragedy occurred in Connecticut USA that touched people all over the world. My heart literally hurt all day for the families of the victims at Sandy Hook elementary. Today I woke up with a prayer in my heart for everyone who has lost a loved one too soon and I have been hugging my babies all day (they are getting sick of it actually). Going forward from this must feel like an impossible task for the families involved and my hope is that they know how many people are praying for them, thinking of them and grieving with them. Stay strong, you have the prayers of the world behind you.
Challenge -- Freshly Made Sketches #65
Ok I know we are 11 days to Christmas but I am going to bring a little Spring to the season!  I got some new goodies for my birthday this month and I just had to play!  The Challenge was a great opportunity to have a little fun!
This little pinwheel just looks and feels like Spring doesn't it?  I stayed with some basic colours and style using  Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise and Daffodil Delight.  The ribbon is Daffodil Delight seam binding. I used the Swiss Dots Embossing Folder on the White layer and backed a Tempting Turquoise DSP layer.
I really hope you like the card, for other inspiring ideas check out the Freshly Made Sketches Page.
Pop-up Gift Card Box -- Tutorial
On of my favourite go to gifts at Christmas is Gift Cards!  Every year I try to design or CASE a gift card holder that is different from last year.   This year I wanted to make a little gift box that pulls the gift card out as you open it.  I played around with a couple of ideas and this is what I came up with.  You only need one sheet of 8.5 x 11 card stock for this box and the insert.
You will need
  • 1 piece of 8 1/2 x 11  Card Stock
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Pen
  • Sharp knife or Paper Snips and cutting pad
  • Strong Adhesive
  • Ruler
I started by cutting out all of the pieces from my one sheet of paper.  As you can see to the left if you cut correctly you can get it all from one sheet. Dimensions are as follows;
Box:  6 1/2 x 7
         score long side at 1 1/2 and 5 1/2
         score short side at 2 1/2 and 4
Lid:  6 1/8 x 3 5/8
        score at 1" on all sides
Spring Inside Lid: 1/2  x 8
        score at  2, 2 1/2, 3, 5, 5 1/2, and 6
Card Holder: 1 1/4 x 11
        score at 2 1/2, 5 1/4, 7 3/4 and 10 1/2
To the right you see the Card Holder piece. Using a ruler mark your cut spots on the two sections that are 2 1/2" This will hold the card.  I used the card as my reference for the length of the slit.  Below you can see how I used a knife to cut out the slits.
Once the slits are cut and used my snips to make them only slightly bigger.  I also cut the 1/2" tab at the bottom as shown so it does not get in the way.
 Fold all your pieces along the score lines and for the lid and box be sure to cut out the tabs that you will be adhering together.
 This is the piece that I call the "spring."  This piece will be attached to the top of the card holder and adhered to the inside of the lid.
 Here are the pieces all put together. I have added DSP to the lid and versa marked the base prior to gluing it together.
This shows the card holder and the spring attached together.
Use a strong adhesive to glue the top of the spring to the inside of the lid, as shown.   The spring allows the card to sit inside the box when it is closed and to drop down when it is opened so it can be seen and removed from the holder.
 Now you are ready to slide the Gift Card into the slits and put the lid on the box!
 Ta Da!
 When it is opened the gift card comes out with the lid.
Below is the complete box with the additions of the embellishments.
Challenge -- Freshly Made Sketches #63
I know we still have 24 days until Christmas and I totally seem like an overachiever to be making Valentines cards but I have made a LOAD of Christmas cards and wanted to try something new!
So here is my newest challenge.
I used a Crumb Cake base and a Very Vanilla layer.  The seam binding ribbon is Cherry Cobbler and Crumb Cake.  I used the Hearts Framelits to create the hearts and embossed them an embossing folder (I do not know the name of the one I used, it is not SU) similar to the Vintage Wallpaper Folder. The "Love" stamp is from a retired set called "  and of course I added shimmer!
Welcome Baby Rhett!
It's A Boy!! My Upline Amber Chapman had a little baby boy this week.  Rhett Trevor Chapman!  He is totally adorable and such a sweet angel.  It took me a while to figure out what kind of card I wanted to make and in the end it was so detailed I had to make it a 6x6!!  I really do not know why Noah's Ark is associated with babies but it is and it is really fun and cute so here is my take on Noah's Ark using the Fox and Friends (retired) stamp set.   Welcome Rhett!
Oh where do I begin?  I used Pacific Point and Tempting Turquoise Card Stock with a Whisper White background.  I used the Core'dinations Card Stock in Early Espresso for the Ark and embossed it with the Woodgrain Embossing Folder. Plus Crumb Cake for the interior. Of course I fussy cut all of the animals and used the cupcake punch for the clouds.
 For the Interior of the card I used MDS2 to create the tag and then cut it out with the Apothecary Accents Framelits.
Below is a Hybrid Card.  I created the kids and sentiment on MDS2 and then printed it on Whisper White Card Stock.  I created the remainder of the card with Marina Mist and Bashful Blue Card Stock and DSP and scored the edges of the white layer for texture.
I even got to colour a little using my pencil crayons and blender pens!! I love to colour.
Congrats to the Chapman Family,  Rhett is adorable and I am so excited for all of you.
Have a great day
Christmas Telescope Card
I love these telescope cards.  They are so fun and there are endless options.  I saw a card like this on Pinterest and I love the "No Peeking" Stamp Set.
For the Card I used a selection of Circle Dies, the Large Scallop Circle Die, 2 1/2" Circle and 2 3/8" Scallop Circle Punches.
I am using a variation of this for my Kid's Card Class on Sunday!  Very exciting!
Challenge -- Freshly Made Sketches #62
Well it is late and I am heading to bed but I really wanted to get this card out first.  I enjoy sketch challenges as they allow you to go with any colour combo and style you like.  Of course with Christmas just around the corner I have been busy making lots of cards.   I added a load of shimmer to this card, I hope you can see it.
I used my favourite retired Christmas stamp "Dasher"  I miss it so much and still pull it out whenever I need a pretty and simple Christmas Card.  I also pulled out some retired Riding Hood Red Ribbon and the retired Snow burst Embossing Folder.   I miss all of these items.  I used Vanilla, Soft Suede and Riding Hood Red Card Stock plus Espresso Ink for Dasher.  I spritzed on Champagne Shimmer mist and added glitter to Dashers antlers and nose.  I had to put the Sentiment below Dasher because I just did not like the look of the card with it above.
I hope you like my card and to see more beautiful cards go to Freshly Made Sketches
Challenge -- Paper Players Gold/Silver
Christmas Cards are my favourite cards to create! There are so many wonderful options, designs and colors.  Metallics are perfect for the Christmas season as in "shiny and bright" and this weeks Paper Players Challenge takes full advantage of this.   The Challenge is to make a Clean and Simple card with Gold and/or Silver.   I do not have a lot of gold product in my inventory as I tend to lean toward the silver so when I was creating cards with my friends at the Wild Rose retreat and I saw a girlfriend use the Star Tree stamp with silver embossing powder I just had to create a card around it!  So here it is.
I used Whisper White Card Stock and the Northern Flurry Embossing folder.  I added the Star Tree in Silver Embossing Powder and some rhinestone jewels to finish it off.  It was so pretty I did not even add as sentiment on the exterior.
For more wonderful Gold and/or Silver creations check out the Paper Players Blog
