It's NOT too early for Thanksgiving Crafts...

In Canada Thanksgiving is the second weekend in October!  That is a mere six weeks away!!

My Fall Product Showcase is September 15 at 2pm.  If you live in Calgary and want to check out some of the amazing products from this years Holiday Catalogue then please RSVP by Sept 7 at janetyates@shaw.ca

In the meantime here is my CASE of the Thanksgiving Card from Page 3 in the Catalogue.

The Stamp Set is "Truly Grateful" and I love it!

For this card I used Very Vanilla as my base and the top layer.  I also used Pumpkin Pie Card Stock as a layer.   The stamp sets used are Gorgeous Grunge and of course Truly Grateful.  Ink was Early Espresso, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight.
For embellishments I used Witches Brew Washi Tape and a small 7/8" scallop circle punch and 3/4" circle punch with a little "U" from Around Array Stamp Set.  I backed the circle with Early Espresso.
The Sentiment is stamped on the tape in Staz On.

Well I hope you like this card!  It was super fun to make.

Speaking of Fall ... The Stampin Up September "Best Of..." series is out now!   Guess what the set is called "Best Of Autumn"

Baby's Cards - You always need one more!

My kids are now 5 and 8 and I am done having babies. Most of my friends are done having babies and my Husband and I are the youngest in our families, therefore, no more nieces or nephews for us!  I think!!

It seems however I am always in need of just one more baby card!  A family friend of mine just had a little boy (in fact I used to babysit her when she was 3!  I am feeling a little old!) and another Stampin' Friend is due in November.  So as I said there is always need for another baby card.

When I surf Pinterest I pin a lot of baby cards that catch my eye, I then proceed to forget about them and when I need a baby card I am rushing to get one made.

Not this time!   I saw a Digital Studio card on Pinterest with this little Fisher Price toy on it and thought I could create that with my Word Window punch!   I literally shut my computer, walked into my craft room and went to work!  I love it when that happens.  And I really love how this turned out!

Let me know what you think.

I used the standard Primary Colours for this card, Real Red, Pacific Blue, Old Olive, Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie.  I did Clear Emboss the punched pieces to make them look more plastic and I really like how the effect worked.   The Paper I used for the toy is last years Brights Pack DSP.

The Sentiment at the bottom is a combination of about 5 or 6 sets.   I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to make it look like word art.  This will be for a boy but it could have just as easily been made for a little girl.

Well I guess it is time to get back to Pinterest.  I need more ideas like this!

Thanks for looking!

WORST CARD EVER .. Ok maybe Not!!

A couple of days ago I got inspired to try a fishbowl card with actual water. I have seen a couple of these and thought "How hard could that be?"  AHH, famous last words!!

I gathered my tools; a hot glue gun, window sheet, treat cup(s) and of course my cute little stamp!

I stamped my image on Whisper White and coloured it with my Copic Markers, yes I am one of those people who loves my copics, but more on that later.  Once I had the cute little fish bowl ready I plugged in my hot glue gun and cut out a 2 3/4" square window sheet to fit on the back of my treat cup.
The idea was that I fill the cup with water and few sparkles, spread hot glue around the edge and attach my window sheet getting a great watertight seal!  Easy right?  Yeah NO!

Here is a picture of my first couple of tries!

So I think the first time the glue was not hot enough, the second time I was not fast enough and that third try I used white glue, yeah, don't do that!  It does not work, at all!

So I forgot to take a picture of my final cup but it looks very much like the top picture, maybe a little neater but not much. I hid the monstrous mess below some pretty DSP and Cardstock!

In the end I got a really great card and I learned that hot glue is not my friend.  I was never very crafty until I got hooked on Stampin' UP, for just this reason!  If only SU made "watertight seal adhesive" :)

Here it is, the card that caused me to run next door cursing and smiling at the same time.
I always vent to my wonderful neighbour!

On with the details of the card.  When I finally got a workable fishbowl I had to come up with a super cute card that would show off my creation!  In the end I wanted something simple that would highlight the fishbowl and not detract from it.

I used a white base with layers of Rich Razzelberry, Pumpkin Pie, more White and a Tempting Turquoise DSP on the top.  I added some Pumpkin Pie Candy Dots and a white banner with my sentiment.

I used a lot of Dimentionals to allow for the thickness of my treat cup (with all that glue), I had to double up.   I stamped the fishbowl on the Turquoise DSP and punched out a 1 3/8 circle to allow the treat cup to come through.

Now I mentioned my Copics earlier and I have never mentioned them before so here is my confession.  Stampin' Up used to have a policy about using Non-Stampin Up products and as a Demo I could not promote them on my blog.  I kept them in my craft room, hidden from view and only pulled them out for my own use and for fun.  They are so fun to colour with and face it your inner child wants to colour, its a great stress reliever too!

Copics are alcohol based and they blend and colour so beautifully.  I wanted my fish to really pop.  The colours were so vibrant that I used them on the sentiment too!

Ok so my worst card ever turned out to be super cute and I cannot wait to give it to someone!

Thanks for looking and please let me know what you think!

Challenge -- Freshly Made Sketches #100!

Well my frustration level is at an all time high today!  I have been trying to enter this Challenge for 2 days now and have had nothing but trouble with my photo editing software!   I purchased a new laptop a couple of weeks ago and try as I might this new Windows 8 is just driving me nuts!   I also got the all new and not so improved Microsoft office.  This new software is lacking in one major area, Photo Software!  I used to use and love Microsoft Picture Manger, it is now gone and I miss it A LOT!  I have finally settled on Corell Paintshop and it seems to be getting the job done, there is a learning curve but it's coming along.

Ok enough ranting!!!   Lets get to the Challenge.

This week is FMS 100th sketch!  I have been living and breathing Christmas, Halloween and Thanksgiving in my craft room lately so Wedensday I took a break from all of that and made some Birthday cards.   Below in one of the cards I made and I just love the colours and fun of it all.

Ok so I admit I might have gotten a little carried away with the editing.  It's a bit dark but I will work on that for next time!

This card was made using the Birthday Basics DSP.  I got all of the great rich colours from this paper.  I used Very Vanilla for the base and Bermuda Bay for the first layer. Then I used Raspberry Ripple and Crisp Cantaloupe for my accent colours.

Check out the link below to see the other great entries and inspiration.

Splitcoast Stampers Tutorial! - Owl Sucker Holder

Last Halloween I created a cute little broom out of a sucker for my Halloween Club project.  I was really happy with how it turned out but I never thought in my wildest dreams it would be featured on Splitcoast Stampers!   SCS is one of my absolutely favourite web sites for paper crafting.  There are literally thousands of ideas, examples, and tutorials.

Bette from SCS contacted me and told me she had chosen my little broom to feature as a Tutorial this August and I was honoured.    I set to work on a tutorial and Bette was nice enough to make a video.  So today it went live!

If you have not been to the Splitcoast Stampers webpage then you should check it out.  The gallery alone is worth the visit.  There is an entire Stampin' Up Gallery that is categorized by stamp set so if you have a set that you want to use you can look it up on this site and get tons of great ideas for it.

Check it out at www.splitcoaststampers.com you will not regret it.

Here is the link to the Tutorial on SCS.

Queen of Clean!!

For those of you who follow my blog I occasionally like to participate in blog challenges and usually when I do I enter the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  I find I really like sketch challenges as I can choose my own colours and elements I just have to follow the sketch.  It allows me to be creative but still have that creative challenge.

Well last week I decided to enter the FMS Challenge and enter it just before my camping trip.  Well I was in for a very nice surprise when I got back!  I was chooses as the Queen of Clean!   Amazing!!  Thank you Jen so much for choosing my card!

Here is my card!

Thanks to everyone who visits my blog and to the wonderful ladies who commented on my card last week.

Challenge -- Freshly Made Sketches #98

It has been a while since I have done any challenges but I needed the inspiration yesterday so I went to my favorite Challenge site Freshly Made Sketches.   I am making this a quick post as it is late I am going camping tomorrow!  Excited!!

So is the card I made for the challenge.

F
For this card I used Sarah Sand, Tangerine Tango, Chocolate Chip and Very Vanilla Card Stock. I also used the new Sweater Weather DSP from the Holiday Catalogue. The stamp set is one of my favourites "Perfect Blend"
I used some old retired corduroy buttons and I love the texture they add.

Click on the image below to see the other great entries and cards from FMS.

Below is another card I made that was inspired by this sketch and by another entry from
"Stampin' Harley Girl, Karen" in this challenge.  I just love the colours on this one.   I used So Saffron, Basic Grey, Real Red, Black Ink and "I Am Me" DSP.

I hope you like the cards.  Thanks for Looking.

Have a great day

Make and Take from Convention

While at convention this year I tried hard to get to the Make and Takes but there was so much to do and see that I decided to bring them home and work on them.   I finally got to play with the supplies and a couple of my new Stamp sets from Convention and I really love how this card looks.

The two stamp sets used for this card were given to us at Convention.  The stamp used for the background is "Gorgeous Grunge" and let me tell you it lives up to the name.  I have seen so many wonderful cards made with this.
The other stamp is "Hello Lovely"  it has some very versatile element to it and the Ampersand which is very popular right now.

I changed mine up a bit from the M&T.  I added dimension and left off the designer tape on the card but you can still see it on the envelope.

I am sure you will be seeing more from me with these two stamps set!

Also on a personal note I just wanted say how excited I was to see a couple of my creations on the Stampin' Up Homepage on August 2!   They also pinned these items to their Pinterest page!  Wow, what an honour!   Below are the three items that were featured.  Click on each to see the original post!

Have a great day

Swap to C.A.S.E. part. 4

Ok one more S2C card before I head off on my 4 day camping adventure!  My oldest girl starts school next Thursday so we are heading out of town for one last summer trip before she starts the grind!

When I saw the card on the left (the Swap) I immediately wanted to play with my butterfly punches.  You know it is a great Swap card when it inspires you to get crafting.

This card has some of my favorite colours incorporated in to it, unfortunately there was no name on the back so I have no idea who I should give credit to.  If it's yours comment below and I will give you a shout out on my Facebook page.
On the right is my take on the card.  I added bling and a bit of dimension by using a glue dot on the small white butterflies and lifting the wings.

I already have a little girl in mind to give this card too!   I hope you like it.

Have a great day!

Swap to C.A.S.E. part 3

Here is another fun S2C card!   I actually cased this from 2 sources.  On the main stage at Convention there was a card similar to the card I made (using the hexagon punch to make a sunflower) and then I saw this Swap card and in my mind the two went together!

On the left is a really pretty spring themed card from M.K. Surzyshyn.  I really loved the colours and all of the texture.  I carried the texture over but since I tried to go with more of a Sunflower I used fall colours.  I used Vanilla, Crushed Curry, Early Espresso, Garden Green and Cajun Craze.

I added some leaves to mine using the Mosaic Punch, but I have to tell you I had issues lining up my hexagon leaves LOL.   I am sure it was just my need for perfection!  Not sure I achieved it but hey I like the card.
