Challenge - Color & Sketch!

Ok I know what you are thinking; second post in one day!  Well my Husband is away and the kids are in bed!  I found two challenges I wanted to try so I combined them and Ta Da! Second post of the day for two challenges
- Embellish Jeweled Color Trends Challenge and
- Freshly Made Sketches Design Challenge #28

I loved the colors on the Embellish Challenge they are completely beautiful! Only problem, I had very little SU paper that would work well. I used two retired colors; Ballet Blue and Going Grey and two current colors; Whisper White and Taken with Teal. The Jeweled Flowers are some random pieces I have had laying around for a long time and I was excited to use them.

To check out the rules and the fun of doing challenges check out the links below.  Honestly so many wonderful people submit projects and they can be really inspiring!

Sneak Peek #2 -- Summer Smooches

As I said in my last post the new SU Catalogue is on it's way but until then we have some special items available for limited time!  This great little stamp set, Designer Series Paper and Ribbon are just some of the items that will be available to you for the month of April!  I will post a full flyer on April 1st but until then lets see what can be done with some of the items!  These little 3x3 cards with homemade envelopes were my thank you cards for my clients who placed an order through me this month.

Also my new Stampin Nerd Banner was made using the Digital Downloads that will be available in the flyer and don't forget the 30 day Free trial of My Digital Studio is still available.

To make the coordinating envelopes I used a great new product, the Diagonal Scoring Plate that accompanies the Simply Scored Plate.  It's available now!

I am super excited to see the new products coming our way in June but until then we can play with the Summer Smooches Suite and the Petite Purse Die!  Keep watching Stampin Nerd for the Flyer!

Thanks for looking

Sneak Peek #1 -- Petite Purse Die

Well the new Stampin Up Catalogue is coming out June 1st and I have a little sneak peek for you.   This little Petite Purse Bigz L Die is so adorable!  Great for class room gifts or shower favours!  The die actually cuts out the purse and the handle so all the hard work is done and all you have to do is pick the paper and dazzle it up a bit.  You should expect to see more of these on my blog soon I have having a blast with it.

I used Regal Rose and Blushing Bride for the pink purse and Island Indigo and Baja Breeze for the blue purse.
I used the same colors for the card that will accompany the purse.  For the stamp I used Blushing Bride ink with Regal Rose highlights from a marker the technique is called "tap dancing."   It works great if you ink the stamp in a lighter color and tap the marker in a darker shade.
For the blue card I used Baja Breeze ink on the stamp and tapped an Island Indigo marker on the stamp before putting it to paper.

Below is a close up view of this technique.

Thanks for looking, keep an eye out for the next Seek Peek,
Summer Smooches!

Fantasy Box with Matchbox Die

It's another retreat creation. As I said in my last post I wanted to use the Matchbox die and I found this great tutorial on Erin Barker's blog that showed a cute little Fantasy Box. I have no idea what I will use it for or who I will give it to but I wanted to try making one so here it is. It was pretty easy to make and all the dimensions and instructions are on Erin's blog.

Paper used was the Lucky Limeade, Poppy Parade, Calypso Coral, and Everyday Enchantment DSP.  See below for the open view.

Everyday Enchantment is from this years Sale-a-Bration mini.  There is one week left to order and get your free products.  Call me or email me if you would like to place an order.

Sale-a-Bration
So four little matchbox inserts glued into the four sections of the outer box.  Lots of potential for a Mother's Day gift or Wedding shower gift.  I may of the make a couple more just for fun.

Thanks for Looking.

Easter Matchbox Treats

I bought the matchbox die a long time ago and wanted to get using it so when I saw the easel card on a matchbox and then saw Dawn Olchefske's blog with this great Punched Art Bunny! I put the two together and there are my Easter Treats for my girls and my two day home kids. I think I will fill them up with Hersey's kisses.

Embellish Challenge -- Rosettes

Well it is that time again and I love love love the colours in this weeks Embellish Magazine Challenge. They are pretty and fun and perfect for rosettes. I admit that rosettes are not something I use a lot. I just recently learned how to make rolled flower rosettes but they are so pretty and fun.

The rules of the challenge are as follows;
Use the colours shown in the color swatch below and use rosette(s) for full details click on the Embellish Link below.   I used Stampin Up's colours;  Pink Pirouette, Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise and Sahara Sand.  I also used Whisper White for the base.

I spritzed the background with Sahara Sand and stamped the sentiment in Tempting Turquoise.  I added Pearls to the center of the rosettes because I love them ;)

Smile

Well Sale-a-Bration is just about over so I have one last post to show off one of the many cute items you could get for free when you order $60.00 in product.  The Sprinkled Expressions Stamp set is super cute.  Honestly there were so many cute items to pick from but I really liked this one and I have seen some great ideas on other blogs.  Here is one of my creations with this card.  Hope you like it.

I used the teal embossing powder on the flower and the saying.  The colour pops so well on black! I layered the black and teal paper on a white base and added dimentionals to all of the layers to make them pop too!

If you are interested in placing an order before Sale-a-bration ends on March 31 please contact me at janetyates@shaw.ca or check out the link above to order through me on-line!

Have a great day.

Home Sweet Home

My daughter's Piano Teacher has just moved into her new home so I thought I would make her a card for the occasion.  On top of that she just announced she is expecting so I have two cards to give her!   I have to admit I don't have much in way of "new home" stamp sets let alone "your expecting" stamp sets so I made do with what I have.  The sentiments on the Home Sweet Home card are not Stampin Up (shh don't tell anyone) but all the other products are SU.  I have wanted to play with the milk carton die and make a little bird house so I made it to match the card.

I used Crumb Cake paper for the base and the house.  Riding Hood Red, Old Olive, Marina Mist and Vanilla are the other colors used and Chocolate Chip for the ink.
To the Right is the inside of the card. You can see a hint of the eggs from the outside but inside is the mama bird and her chicks. The bird punch is one of my favourite tools.  My oldest LOVES birds and has asked me to make a card like this for her!

Ok so as I said that they are expecting and as it turns out she is not the only person I know who is expecting. I made two of these cards in different colors. I have seen these little peas in a pod cards before and have always wanted to make one. Now I have made two and I love them. Too cute!
For the card above I used Wisteria Wonder and Pear Pizzaz and for the card to the right I used Pool Party and Certainly Celery.

Hope you like them.  Thanks for looking.

Embellish Challenge -- Spring

Embellish Online Magazine has color challenges you can participate in.   Click on the image to link to their blog.
The thing I love about color challenges is that they force you to try something you might not normally try. I tried a couple of different projects but the Spring theme kept tripping me up. Finally I went with Easter and came up with a cute little card I will give my daughter on Easter morning.

Rules:  Use Colors listed in the Challenge and Keep to the theme.

In this case I used all Stampin Up products (as always).

Colors used are: Calypso Coral, Pool Party, So Saffron and Pirouette Pink.

Also used were Whisper White paper and Chocolate Chip Ink.

I used an old Easter stamp set only because I do not have any others but I love it, it is so cute.  The eggs I made from paper and the small oval punch.
The inside of the card

This was my first attempt.  My major problem with this card is I did not find any good use for the yellow.  When I added it it felt slapped on so also it did not really fit in with my image of a spring theme so I changed it to a birthday card.

Thanks for Visiting.

MDS -- Smiley

I have worked on 3 projects in my craft room in the past two days and I hated 2 of them so I thought I would hit the computer again. I am slowly working on my youngest daughter's book because I don't have my oldest daughter's pictures downloaded yet (they are all on discs). I am loving the neutral backgrounds right now and I have a feeling most of the book is going to be themed this way.

I used a Crumb Cake Background with an overlay from the Presto Patterns Stamp Brush.  Presto Patterns is such a great way to add texture to a 2D object.   I used a retired color - Summer Sun for the title and an In Color - Wisteria Wonder for the accents.  Adding shadows is very important; I can't tell you how many MDS projects look drab because they simply did not add shadow.  I found this layout from one of Heather Summers posts and as I have said before I love her work especially with MDS.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
